HIPPS (or High Integrity High Pressure Protection System) is a fully autonomous safety instrumented system (SIS) to prevent over-pressurization of a pipeline from causing resultant damage to downstream facilities. It is designed as according to IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.HIPPS performs timely closing of the final elements (safety shutdown valves) upon detection of voted (2oo3) out-of-limit pressure in the pipeline by the initiators (pressure transmitters).
