HIPPS (or High Integrity High Pressure Protection System) is a fully autonomous safety instrumented system (SIS) to prevent over-pressurization of a pipeline from causing resultant damage to downstream facilities. It is designed as according to IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.​HIPPS performs timely closing of the final elements (safety shutdown valves) upon detection of voted (2oo3) out-of-limit pressure in the pipeline by the initiators (pressure transmitters).​
